Waluga, 1850 (36" X 48"), mixed media on canvas—$5500
t.This is one of my new ceramic paintings constructed with clay slip. I pour a variety of densities of slip on the canvas as I angle and direct the movement of the liquid clay. Once I have the layers and shapes the way I feel something is working it is allowed to dry. In Waluga, 1850 I work charcoal and red conte in the edges to emphasize particular shapes. In this painting the clay is from Lake Oswego (original Indian Name—Waluga). The antique leather harness is added to suggest an ambiguous history from 1850 to the present. This painting will be in this year's Lake Oswego Chronicle Invitational—June.
